About

jenny pommiss is a choreographer, performer, and teacher. Her interest in dance blossomed in the most unlikely of circumstances, a 10th grade once weekly dance class, comprised mostly of reluctant teenagers fulfilling their arts requirement to graduate. It was in this class where Jenny realized that she had stories to tell, and the body, in all its awkward imperfection, was her preferred medium. With a never ending interest in crafting movement language, jenny went on to study dance at oberlin college and received an mfa from the ohio state university, where she was a recipient of the graduate alumni research award. jenny's work uses different configurations of movement, sound, costume, video and set design to craft non-linear narratives that are kinesthetic excavations of the human experience. the creative process is paramount to her work and seeks to involve and invest the performers, giving them a voice in the culminating piece. her inspirations are disparate, yet she usually finds herself drawn to investigating one basic question: what happens when bodies, hearts, and minds are wound up and tangled in compromising positions?

Jenny currently resides in brooklyn, ny. Her work has been presented in nyc, san francisco, connecticut, miami, philadelphia, canada and germany. She currently teaches dance at the grace church school in nyc where she began building the high school dance program in 2012 from the ground up.
